I needed to find some shots of Mike Wilds to illustrate the interview with him which was completed a couple of months ago. While thumbing through our archive of old motor racing photos I happened upon this atmospheric shot of the paddock at the 1994 Goodwood Festival of Speed – the second running of the event. At the time I was an over-excited 10 year old who adored the T-series Ferraris so I imagine I was just out of shot proudly displaying one of many Ferrari t-shirts…
What is poignant about this particular photo is that Mike was to badly hurt his legs in a nasty shunt over the weekend. It is quite possibly one of the last photos taken of driver and car together. The car itself is the 312T3 of Nick Mason which he has owned for many years. It is the chassis which Gilles Villeneuve used to take his first Grand Prix victory at Montreal in 1978. As such it is one of the most significant machines in Ferrari history.

I have 2 x paddock photos of just the car, similar to the one you posted with crash helmet on tail fin, one from the front and one from the side/rear right side, both with top canopy missing and 3 driving photos of car and driver (yellow crash helmet) from 1994, sadly I do not have the negatives anymore but the photos are clear and sharp. 1 shot is head on and the other 2 are panning shots with a sharp car and blurred background all pretty close
